Emile Kangue

Emile Kangue is a superstar makossa musician from Cameroon who began his hit career with the former Group Black Style.

Émile Emile Kangue, born in Édéa, is a Cameroonian singer, composer and bass player. He is one of the pioneers of the musical genre makossa, in particular, because of his membership in the former Cameroonian group Black Style, alongside other figures of the makossa such as Nkotti François and Toto Guillaume.

n 1980, as a solo artist, Émile Kangue released the album Dikom Lam La Moto (My dear friend) which he enjoyed great popular success, even beyond the city of Douala. The title sold more than 50,000 copies and earned the artist a gold record.

This success also earned the performer the opportunity to receive a gold disc from stylist Paco Rabanne. In the 1980s, Émile Kangue released the album Douala Infos, in which he used many rising stars of the Cameroonian music of the time for the choirs of different pieces, such as Sissi Dipoko, Charlotte Mbango and Penda Dalle with whom he had collaborated a few years earlier. For the arrangements of some of his music, Mr. Kangue calls on one of the most esteemed African guitarists of his time, Toto Guillaume, who is one of his former companions in the group Black Styl. This is how the media coverage of titles like Sumwa Mulema, Diba Di Titi Etom , or even Halom, which is one of his rare compositions written in Bassa, made them essential songs of the Cameroonian cultural landscape of the 1980s.

In early 2016, on the occasion of his 50 years of a musical career, Emile Kangue released his new album "Massa Chop Chop" which was also a hit.
